Another First Place!

Native Edible & Medicinal PlantsNative Edible & Medicinal PlantsIn late spring, Magma Design Group, Inc. was invited to participate in the Newport Flower Show as an entry in their Class 9 Greenenergy container competition. The Show's concept was was to include a wind mill in each pot and request the participants to use native material as a major element of the containers. Inpsired by the thought of using native medicinal and edible plants, Magma came up with the following plant list:

  • Amelanchier canadensis - Serviceberry
  • Gaultheria procumbens - Wintergreen
  • Vaccinium corymbosum - Highbush Blueberry
  • Vaccinium macrocarpon - Cranberry
  • Arctostaphlos uva-ursi - Bearberry
  • Matteuccia pensylvanica - Ostrich Fern
  • Coreopsis - Tickseed
  • Echinacea purpurea - Purple Coneflower
  • Panicum virgatum - Switchgrass
  • Nicotiana - Tobacco Plant

For the use and arrangement of these plants, Magma was awarded a first place prize. This is the first time that Magma has participated in this show.
