Newport Flower Show June 26, 2009

NFS Planting In late spring, we were invited to participate in the Newport Flower Show as an entry in their Class 9 Greenenergy container competition. Their idea was to include a wind mill in each pot and request the participants to use native material as a major element of the containers. I thought it would be fun to take it a step further and narrow the plant selection to include (mostly) native edible and medicinal plants. That was much easier said than done!

Finished Planter Blog

With a trip to Sylvan Nursery, I collected plants that I thought would work. Let me tell you, these plants work great in the ground, but were no so easy to make work in a planter with a windmill in the middle of it (see our news page for the plant list)! But, with a bit of encouragement from my biggest cheerleader, the pot was planted. And what do you know? We won first place! Seems like we are on roll......maybe we should play the lottery.....
