Day 3 of The Flower Show Set-Up February 18, 2009

Day 3 of the Flower Show Set-Up
Jennie Braves Walking On Top of The Water Feature
By the third day of set up, our display was really beginning to take shape. Almost all the stone had been used up and the plants were delivered and ready for installation. It's funny, the day before, when there were still stones everywhere, I was really getting nervous that we had perhaps bitten off more than we could chew. Neil was never nervous. He thrives in the chaos that is stonework and feels most comfortable when he is surrounded by his stone. By Tuesday, when we had 200 plus plants ready for install, I was comfortable with the fact that we were right on schedule and he was worried that we wouldn't finish. Obviously, we each have our strengths!

I would say that the best part of Day 3 was the connections that we were beginning to make with our fellow display mates! Being the "new kids on the block" we weren't sure how we would be welcomed into the flower show. We could not have been more surprised by how wonderful and helpful everybody was. If you needed anything, all you had to do was ask. Thanks again to Gary at Briggs Nursery and Mark and Paul of Domina's Agway for lending me some extra plants. Thanks to Mike Cavanagh for his patience as we used up all the available extra space for storing materials, and thanks to Michelle Sousa of Metamorphosis Design for her encouragement and great sense of humor. It was welcome in the late hours of the night.

By the end of Day 3 we had the water feature running, the plants were in, the lighting was completed, and we just needed to finish the details. We ended Day 3 at 2 am.

Day 4 was a whirlwind of activity. You never think you'll need as much time as you really do to deal with the details. We still needed to finish mulching, place the moss, write the plant labels, clean-up the tools and left-over mess, keep mulching, hide the plant containers, water, and get the clethra in the pond! Phew, we did it and finished in time to clean-up and make it to the preview party.
